Ukrainians have another cause to fight, as activist-journalist Tetyana Chernovil landed in intensive care after serious beating from unidentified assailants.
Protesters in Kiev shouted in the streets carrying photographs of the nearly unrecognizable face of the journalist. According to the chants, Chernovil was pulled from her car and beaten after accusing the minister of corruption. The dissenters accused the police of executing the attack.
The crowd roared, “It is a shame to beat women on the head.”
Others called for the resignation of the interior minister Vitaly Zakharchenko.
Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have marched the streets in protests over the past few months to demand his resignation.
Chernovil said that she was followed by a black SUV which forced her off the road. Soon after, a number of men smashed her rear window and pulled her out of the car. She was beaten and abandoned in a ditch after that.
The 34-year-old activist-journalist is a staunch critic of the Ukrainian government, posting many stories unearthing the state’s corruption.
